Back to basics, what are the must have skin care products you need?
- Two cleansers.
- A moisturizer.
- Sunscreen. All celebrities favourite skin care tips. To use sunscreen. Look at Anne Hathaway, she uses sun screen and that is motivation enough right?!
- Repair or anti-aging products that stimulates cell growth and strengthens the skin barrier.
- Pro tip! Wash your pillow case and always use a clean towel when drying your face.
A cleanser is needed to remove bacteria and dirt that has come to your skin during the day. If you use makeup a cleanser is also important to remove the makeup and let the skin rest. Use a cleanser that does not have a drying effect on your skin.
It is important to double cleanse. Use two different cleansers, one with oil and another one with water. The purpose is to clean your face without drying out your skin. The oil based cleanser removes excess oil and oil based products from your skin (such as makeup for example) and the water based cleanser will get rid of any pore clogging dirt that remains on the skin at the end of the day. Using two cleansers will make your skin feel clean on a deeper level.
Moisturisers are very important. Adding moist to your skin is one of the most rewarding things you can do for your skin. You should chose a moisturiser depending on your skin type.
Oily skin: use a moisturiser that won’t add more oil and instead is more gel like.
If you are very oily in the T-zone (your forehead and nose area) you do not need to apply moisturiser there, instead apply it around those areas. When applying makeup you can use a primer for your T-zone.
Normal skin: use a lotion or light cream
Very dry skin: Use a heavy moisturiser at least twice a day.
The skin around the eyes and on the necks have very fewer oil glands than other skin areas, so it is always good to apply a moisturiser to those areas.
Even though moisturisers are important, sunscreen is the most important skincare product. Sunscreen prevents the skin from age spots, brown spots, leathery-looking skin, skin cancers and melanoma.
The picture of this man shows what the sun does to your skin. This man is a truck driver and has been driving for 28 years. The right side of his face has been exposed to the sun, the left side of his face has been "protected" by the car window.
UV rays destroy the skin’s elastic fibres which causes the man´s deep wrinkles. So wear sunscreen!
